http://www.religioustolerance.org/chr_dira.htmHow do we stop Christians from destroying the sanctity of marriage?
Contrary to what ';sunshine'; said, Christians are not destroying the sanctity of marriage ';because they wait for marriage.'; In fact, it's because some DON'T wait that's destroying their chances for a successful life together.
Statistics show that couples who have sex or live together before marriage, are more than 50% likely to end their marriage in divorce. Couples who wait for sex until marriage divorce at only 10%. You do the math ...
YehudiHow do we stop Christians from destroying the sanctity of marriage?
How does this compare with the marriage rate per category? Is this percentage of people who have been married or percentage of entire group? How does it compare with average of age of marriage by group?
I would guess that the lower percentage groups on average marry later and less frequently than the higher percentage groups, but I don't know this for sure.
I would also disagree with you that Christians have the highest divorce rates. Not all Christians have higher divorce rates. Note that the divorce rate for Catholics and Lutherans is the same as Atheists and Agnostics, and that the divorce rate for Christians excluding ';Born-again Christians'; is only 3 percentage points in difference.
That said, there were some religious groups that were strongly behind the opposition to reverse same sex marriage in California, so they are behind, in effect, causing divorce. How can we stop these Christians from destroying the sanctity of marriage? Perhaps through education?
That ignores the major and really the only data we have on divorce versus marriage in cases of couples of all faiths. And it overwhelmingly supports the Christian view.
====%26gt; Living together before marriage has not proved useful as a ';trial marriage.';
People who have multiple cohabiting relationships before marriage are more likely to experience marital conflict, marital unhappiness and eventual divorce than people who do not cohabit before marriage. Researchers attribute some but not all of these differences to the differing characteristics of people who cohabit, the so-called ';selection effect,'; rather than to the experience of cohabiting itself. It has been hypothesized that the negative effects of cohabitation on future marital success may diminish as living together becomes a common experience among today's young adults. However, according to one recent study of couples who were married between 1981 and 1997, the negative effects persist among younger cohorts, supporting the view that the cohabitation experience itself contributes to problems in marriage.
Conducted by a team of leading family scholars headed by University of Chicago sociologist Linda Waite, the study found no evidence that unhappily married adults who divorced were typically any happier than unhappily married people who stayed married.
Even more dramatically, the researchers also found that two-thirds of unhappily married spouses who stayed married reported that their marriages were happy 5 years later. In addition, the most unhappy marriages reported the most dramatic turnarounds: among those who rated their marriages as very unhappy, almost 8 out of 10 who avoided divorce were happily married five years later.
=======================
So premarital sex and divorce both match exactly with Christian teaching. Amazing really.
Many non-Christians don't get married these days therefore there are bound to be less divorces amongst them. Does anyone keep a list of how many have multiple partners, how long (or short) their living in sin lasted, how many children they have to different partners etc?
Your list proves absolutely nothing, except perhaps that all people are sinners and all can experience similar problems in relationships.
The only solution to this problem will come when our society finally realizes that marriage is just becoming a big joke and a waste of time. A couple can get just as much happpiness and domestic success without the complexities of marriage. But if people want to get married, then they have every right to. (And yes, that does include gays).
Christians from apostolic Churches that pre-date the Roman Catholics, protestants etc. and still preach the original doctrines and practices of the Christian faith, e.g. Syrian Orthodox (Church of Antioch), Coptic Orthodox (Church of Alexandria)
% who have been divorced --- %26lt;1%
Born-again Christians 27%
Other Christians 24%
Do you see those ridiculous stats above? That alone blows your question right out of the water. Now I know that stats can lie. The question is, can you figure it out? For instance, how do you include couples in these stats who do not marry?
There is no such thing as Other Christians, if a person is not Born Again they are not Christian. So lets examine your figures
Born Again Christians: 27%
Non-believers and other religions: 73%
So Christians only have a small percent compared to all Non-Christians
Well, I'm proud to see that us Catholics are going neck and neck with the Atheists in preserving the Sanctity of Marriage!
We should have a contest... who can preserve the Sanctity of Marriage the most... hehehe :P
lol. That's funny.
But I think staying married forever is bad for a person psychologically if they don't admit they made a mistake and get a divorce. They're already mentally screwy. Lets not encourage them to make it even more so!
Hun...I'd hate to burst your bubble but religion does not have anything to do with divorce rates. If you cannot communicate and reason with you spouse then it won't work...no matter if your Christian...Atheist...Jewish..or whatever.
Who says so your statistics do not add up to 100% We could say that Atheists and non believers represent any figure from 49% to 73% or 77% depending on your statistics and definition of Christian.
Stop no fault divorces, get rid of pornogrpahy, and stop trying to Murder marraige with 2 people of the same sex trying to destroy it
Umm... can you explain to me the difference between 'Born-again' Christians and 'other' Christians? What exactly forms that distinction?
when you wait until marriage to, ';knock boots'; as they say, you start to wonder if the grass is really greener on the other side
How about you worrying about yourself and keeping your nose in your own business, little girl?
Your statistics do not even add up. STAY IN SCHOOL.
Outlaw same-denomination marriage.
I'd like to know how these people are classified as Christians...
Because church-goers and Christians aren't the same thing
Don't forget to include your fellow non-Christians.
We should design legislation banning their right to marry.
it is because they 'wait until marriage'.
Too late. They make me ashamed to be heterosexual.
Excommunicate all the divorcees!
However, if they repent, we should then let them back into the fold.
Perhaps we should outlaw them from getting married.
Come on now Milley. we all know you are going to have at least 4 husbands in your time and one of them will probably be your dad.
