Should an amendment be passed for the legalization of gay marriage?

What are some reasons it should be passed and what are some reasons it shouldn't be passed.Should an amendment be passed for the legalization of gay marriage?
it just should, if someone is happy with a same sex partner then they should be allowed to marry if that is what they wantShould an amendment be passed for the legalization of gay marriage?
Everyone should be able to choose who they want to share their life with. There are many benefits in being married and it is not fair to only let some people have those benefits. People should be more open to the differences that make this world an interesting place. Peace and love are wonderful!

There is no reason it should not be passed. If the government wants to be in the marriage business (which it probably shouldn't be in anyway), it needs to give it to all citizens.

Otherwise, the government should not marry ANYONE (the preferable option), and give civil union documents to any 2 Americans who want one (giving them benefits like pension extensions in time of death, etc), and people can get married by a private organization if they feel like it, and the organization agrees.
