Do you believe in the traditional view of marriage which is still widely practiced around the world today?

Where a girl is the sole property of her father until exchanged to a man for a few goats, a TV, or some other consumer goods? This practice persisted in the USA until the early 20th century and is still continued by most of the people in the world.

When people say they believe in the traditional view of marriage, isn't this what they are really talking about?Do you believe in the traditional view of marriage which is still widely practiced around the world today?
No, I certainly do not.

That belief is diminishing around the world. Most of the western world no longer subscribes to it, and it is getting less common in the developing world; certainly in the cities.

Of course this belief has only disappeared recently. Women were still regarded (legally speaking) essentially as the property of a husband/male relation in Spain until the 70s.

I doubt most people view this as the ';traditional marriage';, although of course there are plenty of crazies out there who probably do. However, when people talk about ';traditional marriage'; (in an historical sense) they should probably do their research into exactly what that means; ownership of a woman and of the children and household who result of it, not an equal partnership by any means.Do you believe in the traditional view of marriage which is still widely practiced around the world today?
Jeez! You mean I could have got some goats or an HD TV for marrying my wife?

I sure missed out on that one.

I guess you are obliquely referring to the ';threat to traditional marriage'; that proponents of the gay marriage ban kept yakking on about?

I'm still trying to figure out what the ';threat'; actually is. Do they think that if a gay couple move in next door I (a straight guy) might be tempted to have an affair with one of the guys?

The logical extension to ';protect marriage'; is to ban divorce for any reason at all. After all it's ';until death do us part'; isn't it?

Considering how many of the law makers in State legislations and in Washington are on their second or third marriage this would be fun to watch them squirm.

Marriage is not relevant to most people today, many live together and raise families, when marriages (church style) take place it's to please the parents and give the bride her ';special day'; after which they never enter a church again - it's all rank hypocrisy and we need to get these Bible punchers off of our backs once and for all.
As far as the girl being ';sole property'; of her father, No.

As far as the woman having her fathers blessing to marry a man of her choice, Yes. Assuming they are both good men.

I think that when some ppl say they believe in a ';traditional marriage'; they are saying that they believe ppl should get married in the traditional way: man %26amp; woman, white dress, maids of honor, best men, flower girl, ring bearer, kiss, reception, honeymoon that evening/night.
Absolutely ludicrous this is a poor attempt at mocking marriage

as 99.9% of the world do see it as a man and a woman, period.

History tells us, yes there were the traditional marriage dowry type

agreements between the families, etc...however Marriage Universally

has been between a woman and a man.............like Adam %26amp; EVE

Not Adam %26amp; Steve.

To try and portray women as property is just part of whats wrong with this world, we are morally bankrupt, the old world ways were a way of protecting there daughter, and by giving that cow or pig if that makes you feel better was just traditional thing, meant my daughter is worth something, she is not coming empty handed............it is what it should

be a woman and a man, ''PERIOD''
Hopefully the world will grow up and put an end to this form of slavery. Many of the ';old world'; ideals need to change. As nature and mankind progress several upgrades are necessary. Like adjusting marriage as being between two people in love. The whole reason for marriage is to unite two people in love after all.

Peace
That is really not so far from the beliefs of many of the people who spout off about traditional marriage. Many of them believe that it is OK for a man to beat his wife.
When people say they believe in ';traditional marriage';, what they are really saying is that they are against gays, but are afraid to outright say it.

Now that you said it. No. Marriage is a sham anyway. Just look around my hood. Aint nobody married.
no i do not.that is not what people mean by traditional view of marriage.
No I do not think so.
