This website will tell you exactly what you need to know if you are going to get married anywhere in the USA.
http://www.usmarriagelaws.com/How do you go about having a civil marriage ceremony?
First you start with the marriage rules of your county and/or state.
Where do you apply for a Marriage License? In most states there is a Marriage License Department at the County Court House or in one of the County buildings. Both of you must be at least 18 years old or have your parents permission if you are not 18.
Is there a waiting period from the time of application to when the Marriage License becomes valid? Every state sets their own time period.
What is the cost of the Marriage License? Every state sets their own fee.
Do I have to make an appointment for a civil ceremony or is it ';just walk in the door?'; And where will the ceremony take place? Ceremonies cake take place in a Clerk's office or the Judge's office or the Judge's chambers or in a court room or in the hallway.
Am I permitted to bring along friends and/or family members to the ceremony? You will have to ask.
Am I permitted to take photographs during or after the ceremony? Remember you are in a county owned building that has strick rules about bringing in ';electronic devices';? You will have to ask.
And what do Brides and Grooms wear? I have seen jeans and T-shirts . . I have seen a nice dress and a dark suit . . and I have seen a bridal gown, a veil, and a tuxedo. Most couples get ';dressed up'; because it is their wedding day.
And how long will the ceremony take? The Clerk or Judge will ask for your Marriage License before the ceremony begins. A simple five minute non-religious ceremony will be performed (vows, exchange of rings, pronouncement of marriage). After the ceremony your Marriage License will be signed by the person conducting your ceremony. You are now LEGALLY MARRIED.
