Egypt: Do you think only arabs & muslims are taught by parents to preserve virginity until marriage?

Or do you think there are others, too?Egypt: Do you think only arabs %26amp; muslims are taught by parents to preserve virginity until marriage?
Not at all, this is a great misconception that many have in regard to Western culture.

Particularly in the last decade there has been a resurgence in the number of women and men who are choosing and very determined to retain their virginity until marriage.

I have Australian friends who are in their late 20's and 30's and are still virgins and definitley intend to remain that way until they are married.

This may be a ';backlash'; to the era of the 70's and 80's,when their parents were teenagers and the media and a huge, mainly American influence of ';free love and flower power'; was popular.

But with the arrival of the AIDS HIV virus, and a huge upsurge of single parent families whose children in many cases had to grow up on welfare in a consumer society,it seem that a new and more moral set of values has emerged in what parents of this generation are teaching their children, and more importantly what the young adults are determining is right for themselves.Egypt: Do you think only arabs %26amp; muslims are taught by parents to preserve virginity until marriage?
Just about all religions teach preserving virginity until marriage, Christan, Muslim, Jewish, I think probably Buddhist also.

The element you may be missing has more to do with socialization than religion. Many countries are very influenced by television, (the media, or other media). Because some societies are far less religious than they are television addicted, they are socialized through television, and in that way by society. (That is assuming television is reflecting their society and not propaganda from another society which is trying to ';change'; a TV viewing society, which in westernized world is the entire society.) Creating changes in a society becomes possible when the media is owned by foreign people. Anyway because of socialization, people within a society tend to relax their strictness and become more lenient of things that do not coincide with their religious teachings. After all being tolerant is a part of most religious teachings also. Is it not?

It is sort of an effect of desensitizing a population by presenting it to the people through the media.
No, there are some other populations as well, like hindi people. But even in India in big cities there is increasing number of people abandoning that.

As for the West, you will hardly - if at all - find this practice anywhere in Europe. I'm not sure about US though, as they seem to have certain number of rather conservative people and they might go for it.

Just for the record, premarital sex has nothing to do with HIV/AIDS, as long as it is safe sex - partners using protection and using it the right way.

Another thing, parents in Europe are not unhappy at all for their children practicing premarital sex - on the contrary. I'm not sure about US, there might be such cases there, but Europe is a different story.

Finally, you'd get better and more relevant answers if you ask this in different categories, that is if you try to reach different populations and more people.
i don't think it is just a matter of having a religion and it is not just arabs or muslims.. many religions except maybe hindi..... perserve virginity....

but again it is not much of a matter of religion.. i am sure there are many practicing muslims who disobey and decide to do so...

it is a matter of self respect and how much one has for themselves... if they truely value their being and their own temple they will not disobey... its a matter of strong will power.. morals.. and obedience.

not so much religion
Since Judaism and Muslims have the same founding father in Abraham their moral codes are the same.

Christianity came from Judaism.

All of these religions teach virginity before and outside of marriage.

I assume in today's society many young people do not follow the teachings of their parents.
That is totally wrong. thanks to all the hollywood movies that give the wrong idea on both sides.

Many other cultures in Asia, Europe, US, Australia and New Zealand are very conservative and perserving virginty is very important. Especially religious people (christians, Hindu, Jews,....etc.)

However, there is too much pressure especially in western countries were it is legal and parents will have no real control over their kids after certain age, so they can do nothing but they are not happy about it.

.
I don't believe it is from religion or where we are from , I believe that our parents have a lot to do with our morals . Keeping our virginity should be taught to us at a young age , but some parents seem to find it hard to talk about . Maybe they just don't expect us to do bad things at a young age . If my parents had just handed me the Qur'an to read , I honestly think I would have '; had'; more respect of myself ..
I know for a fact indians of all religions are taught the same. I don't know really have any info abt the rest of other countries.
Not only Arabs.
Agree with lestermo.
nearly all nations, urge its girls to keep thir virginity for thir husbands,,,,but in west and usa it is on villages and small towns,,,,,on england village,,thy are more than us on that supject
Ofcourse other people where taught the same..!
