What is Obama going to do about gay marriage while in office?

Legal or NOT?What is Obama going to do about gay marriage while in office?
He already said he doesn't support ';gay marriage'; but would veto a bill defining marriage as between a man and a woman. He probably says let the states decide, which is also what the 10th Amendment of the Constitution says. What is Obama going to do about gay marriage while in office?
Obama has openly stated that he is in support of gay people entering into a civil union, with all the same equal benefits as married couples.

He has also said it is not his administration's place to decide whether or not that is called marriage, if we get the ';name,'; or not.

He says that is up to religious institutions and state laws, but that he will fight to get us equal benefits.

Same stance as the McCain administration.

I don't really care about the name though. All the ';separate but equal,'; connecting it to discrimination of blacks people need to get over it.

We are getting what we want, what's a name?
Obama's not likely to do anything. It's not the President's call. He can only sign or veto legislation that was passed by the Congress. Bush signed the so-called ';Defense of Marriage'; act that freed states from having to honor same-sex marriages performed in other states and that's as far as anyone seems willing to go. I doubt that that issue will come up again for a while on the federal level, as popular sentiment seems to be increasingly luke warm on the subject.

EDIT: Sorry, Clinton, not Bush.
Obama neither supports nor is against gay marriage.. he will protect it, but he will not permit it.. he thinks it's up for each state to decide on it's own about what the state will allow and will not.

Also I'm in total agreement that gays stop comparing their discrimination's to the discrimination of a race (most noticeably the black people)... I also see alot of people refer to MLK... MLK wasn't fighting for gay rights.. so why even bring him up? MLK was fighting for general equality as a whole.. when u mention MLK you should mention more than gay rights.
Obama has said that he does not support gay marriage but does support civil unions with the same benefits as marriage. Although he is against same sex marriage he has said he will not attempt to stop states from giving gay people the right to marriage.
A slight correction to one of your posted answers. Much as I might like to revile Bush, it was President Clinton who signed the Defense of Marriage Act in 1996.
he supports civil unions in which you would have the same rights of a married couple just not the status. which is crazy you might as well lets us get married.
he better make it legal or else %26gt;:D (jk if any FBI agents are survaling this site X_X)
I have absolutely no idea
Nothing.

L
i feel like they might extend gay rights but not legalize gay marriage.... i really hope
