I am a US citizen, married to an Indian. We are now in the living in the US. My husband has a green card, which was obtained ONLY because it is a legal marriage, but when I came back to the US and tried to change my last name with Social Security, they said that they did not recognize the marriage certificate from India. How do I get a valid US marriage certificate, when I'm already married?How do I get a marriage certificate for my foreign marriage?
You need to get the marriage certificate attested by the US Embassy in India to have it recognized in the US.
